It's a small world......

Wednesday, May 20, 2015

Coco referenced seeing Juaquin Costa in a video.  He said that he understood him speaking Spanish and that it was weird because it had never happened before.

Juaquin and his family have been family friends for many years.  He usually speaks English when he Coco is around, but Coco has heard him speak Spanish plenty and until last week never understood it.  Juanquin and his family now live in Peru and I sent the blurb from Monday's letter to his wife.  Here is the reply.....

That is so funny! yes he was in a video for area leadership training.

I forgot to tell you that a couple of weeks ago I attended the mission president seminar. All the mission president's in the area were there and we were in meetings all the time so I couldn’t identify Coco’s mission President but during the wives' meeting I saw his wife and told her I knew Elder Glassett and she told me "Oh Elder Glassett!  He is an excellent missionary!  You know…works hard, always smiles, never complains, the best kind!  Tell his parents they should be proud of their son!!"

Well contrary to all that I thought this week did NOT kill us.. IT’S A MIRACLE

We started the week out in Huancayo where we had a conference… I was there with my USA wool knit tie of course haha…. I think President thinks I'm crazy…but it's okay because I know I am… LET ME TAKE A MOMENT TO SAY SORRY FOR THE FACT THAT THE SHIFT KEY DOESN’T HAPPEN TO WORK IN THIS COUNTRY…

Anyway, this week, we got back from Huancayo on Miercoles. And had a MultiZone PDay where we played soccer and volleyball.  Erin, I could probs beat you at volleyball now HA. Then on Thursday we had the MultiZone where President came and we had a big lunch and watched Meet the Mormons. It was awesome. Then we had to clean the capilla… which was pretty dirty because Mama Henderson made her brownies and it is a fairly common thing that while eating said browneis you lose control of your body and start to dance because those brownies are soooo dang good. I do not know how she does it at all….

Friday was a doozie.. because we had Emergency transfers in Tingo so we had to send a missionary there and take one out AND APPARENTLY WHEN WE PLAN FOR 8 O'CLOCK IT ACTUALLY MEANS 9 THIRTY WHICH IS ACTUALLY REALLY FRUSTRATING..  BOOO.  But, in the end everything went smoothly I guess..

Then we had a special conference on Sunday about ward council… also in a video I saw Juaquin Costa… so that was cool… but he was speaking Spanish and I understood… and that was weird..that hasn’t happened yet…
We just found out that a less active is actually not a member… So she's getting baptized soon. Hhahahaha oh Peru…

Love you all

Crazy story!

Monday, May 11, 2015

Hello Family and others who read this!

I have had a pretty crazy week!  But I only have time to share one story!!!!!!!!!  But it’s so cool!!!!  So Elder Reis was in Huancayo to pick up his new born baby boy… (He’s training) haha

So I was with Elder Bautista… a Colombian who lived in Chicago for 2 years… and we found ourselves surrounded by triple ms (movement missional mundial...) …. Which are more ridiculous than Jehovah’s witnesses…

So, they start attacking me saying if you can’t pull the name Mormon out of the bible the the book of Mormon isn’t true.  To which I said… if you can’t pull the name of Jesus Christ out of the old testament the new testament isn’t true… haha their faces holy cow…. Soooo funny!

Why do you think nobody believed in Christ??? Because the Old Testament calls Him Jehovah!!! (Isa 53:3 -6) Haha so after they saw that they weren’t going to have any luck with that they just started attacking us say that we do baptisms for the dead and the bible does talk about that! But once again…. It does…we read I explained and in the end they just didn’t want to admit that they were wrong…so we left and as we were walking Elder Bautista found a paper on the ground… three actually… the first one he said… hey Glassett I think that’s a scripture mastery paper…. Then… hey one more!!! Then he finally picked up the last one! And guess what scripture it was!!! 1 Cor 15:27 haha it was like God said…Is this your card? Haha that was the coolest thing ever!

I'm Good but I have to go!

What a week. hay cambios? no lo creo!!! (There are changes? I don't think so!!!)

Monday, May 4, 2015

Hola.

WOW!!! I think that for the first time in my misión the folks back in Utah have had a crazier week than I did! Which makes me proud of you all. YOU BEAT PERÚ!!!

But really.  My week went by really smoothly…. Minus an Elder in my zone who baptized someone who wasn’t in his area and everyone was pretty upset. Haha the good part was that the other Zone Leader was Elder Garcia (MI CAUSA) so it was okay. In the end we had a good week!

Funny story. We flagged down a moto taxi the other day and after he had stopped and I had told him where we were going he said…. I don’t have any gas…..WHAT THE HECK MAN???? IF YOU DON’T HAVE GAS WHY DID YOU STOP????? DID YOU THINK THAT FOR SOME RANDOM REASON MY COMPANION AND I HAD GOTTEN ALL DRESSED UP TO TAKE A TAXI TO THE GAS STATION WITH YOU????? HAHA that made me laugh really hard and contemplate the human mind…

I want to say something. Every time Hna. Henderson bears her testimony with her broken Spanish… she says. I know that death is not the end. I know that to be true...
Every trial, hardship, addiction, trouble, pain, every time you have felt empty, forgotten, lonely, or unloved. It's just another opportunity to respond based on the principles and teaching of him who has felt all of those thing and more. It is in the hardest moments. Then and only then do we look to Christ. Because then and only then do we truly understand why we need a savior. Nobody would look for food if they didn’t need it. And in that same way nobody will put their faith into action without understanding that He and only He has the power to stop the fall. Only he can catch us. Only He has the power to do this.

DyC 101:16 Therefore, let your hearts be comforted concerning Zion; for all flesh is in mine hands; be still and know that I am God.

Hola!

This week happened so fast I actually don’t know what to write!

Norma and Estrella were baptized this week. And it was a really cool baptism.  Norma the day of her baptism got really scared. (She thinks she is going to sin again.... which of course will happen) but she almost didn’t want to go to the baptism... In fact, on the way she almost turned back! It might have been the biggest trial of faith she has had yet! Elder Reis and I had the strong feeling to NOT swing by her house even though we really wanted to because her phone doesn’t work and so we couldn’t call to confirm everything...  In the end, she said that when she left the water she was happy she had done it! I think all converts say that which mean that to some point the spirit really does pour out onto them!

Life is great! We have interviews with President this week! And then next week we have divisions in the jungle!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm actually super excited for that

Today is the first pday that is a little more relaxed of the transfer! Which is good because my comp and I are both with a fevers….not super high…. Don’t worry mom! But we need to rest!!!

We are working with a family who is awesome!! The mom and son! Are so excited.  But the dad and sister are taking a little longer!! We need them to get married but the dad is stubborn .. so we are working on that…. I really have nothing more to say!!

WOW Huánuco is HOT

Monday, April 13, 2015

Well if anyone is wondering the misión is still a party! Our baptism for this week fell through… que triste! Her name is Norma. She told us…AFTER PASSING THE INTERVIEW that she didn’t feel quite ready... after talking for a little we found that she hasn’t been super good about reading the Book of Mormon daily… man that is important! If somebody doesn’t read the book they will never know why it is important. I always tell people that if they never eat #tocush... They will never know it’s bad.... I am actually really happy that she told us!  If she hadn't, we would have baptized her when she wasn't ready.

I am actually really happy that she told us! If she hadn’t, we would have baptized her when she wasn’t ready.

We also left Sunday in the morning to find a few news!  And we DID!!  We found another woman named Norma ... strange... she was taking the lessons 20 years ago!!!  When
I was still in the premortal world!!!  She told us she has been wanted to return to the church!!!  We also found a few people from the ward who will help us "Hermanar" our less actives... We found a girl named Claudia who we still haven't been able to visit but her  and her mom and brothers have come to the church twice!!!

THIS NEVER HAPPENED IN PAMPAS!

I am so happy that I was in hard areas… that people here are educated so we don’t have to explain in such simple ways and the people still understand the message! But there are still a few Cholitas y cholitos… who can’t read… so I’m glad I have experience teaching in the hills!

Also a wedding exploded in our faces this week. The mayor called and cancelled the day before and the couple stopped coming to church…but we learned that those people just wanted a free wedding… I mark that as a success.. I think God knew and he stopped it.

Aloha!

This week was sooooooooo Busy! I cannot believe it! We found so many people!!! 19 News!!! What?? My comp and I have to goal to have more than 50 contacts. We figure if every 100 contacts we have we have 1 baptism we can have 1 baptism every 2 weeks! That would be quite the change from my mission up til now!! The difference is that we will have a ward to support us.

I thought Conference was awesome! But have no fear, I am not going to focus on the marriage part of conference AFTER the mission. We are actually working with a family that has recently put the goal of getting married so they can get baptized. The session that they came to talked about two things a lot… Marriage and, the day of Rest. Two things that they really struggle with. But it was good! They always say they will do something and they never do. But this Sunday they did!! It was funny because the last lesson we had with them we shared a scripture from James that says we should be doers of the word and not hearers only. And when they came I called them doers! I really feel that they can progress like crazy!

We have a baptism planned for this Saturday but we have to go to Huancayo today for a leadership conference… and then my comp has to go to Lima for papers… and who knows how this week will end? But the two investigators are awesome!

Norma and Estrella! A mother and daughter! Estrella is like 9 and is so smart! We always explain like 3 times to her mom but she gets it “al toque no mas!”

My comp and I found a lady who is going to make us yarn ties of our country flags! So that’s good!

The church is true and Thomas S. Monson is God's Prophet. I'm sure of that!
