Today we are going to ruins..i dont know how to spelll that

Hey Family
This week was NARLY FAST.  We ended up having a million problems to fix. Which is always super fun!  Our house is getting a lot better!!  We have food now!!!  Which is pretty much oatmeal and pancakes and yogurt… which is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better the typical Peruvian fried everything breakfast... They makes scones (Which is actually pretty awesome)  But they call them Pancakes!! THAT IS A LIE!!

We are working with three families that we have found in the last 2 weeks or so.  And yesterday they all came to church… Which is a miracle for this country...  For real my comp and I have been working Come Locos!  And yesterday it all paid off!  We were sooo happy! And they all loved it!

Side story… For those familiar with Latin Culture it is normal to say hi and bye to EVERYONE with a kiss on the cheek… But not really a kiss, more like touching cheeks and making the “kiss” sound.. With that said… Yesterday an investigator was saying goodbye to everyone and when she got to Fernandez she (against all of his efforts to escape from her)  planted one… haha after the she realized that she shouldn’t have done that.  Probably because I was laughing at them..  Then I shook her hand… I'm STILL CLEAN!!

I should say something about Peruvian food. Every Peruvian here says that it’s the greatest. And in Lima, Trujillo, Iquitos, Tingo and Lots of other parts of Peru, it’s great.  But, here… where I am.  In the mountains… with the hicks of the country…. Not so much.  I’ve been working at being more direct with people…. But also nicer…haha.  Mom probably would not say I need to be more direct…
I know the Church is true . I know the Book of Mormon is true.  And if you don’t, you probably should... your salvation depends on the word of God.

Baptism and the Bible

Tuesday, June 30, 2015

Family.

HI.

EVERYBODY ELSE.

HI ALSO.

We had a great week this week. We were able to find a family that wants to join the church.  We had the Baptism of a kid named Hans.  Whose mom we just rescued and that we Awesome!

Something I learned this week comes from Moroni 10:32, It says if ye love God with everything then with grace is sufficient for us to be made perfect in Christ.

Interesting.

It makes me think of the talk by Jeffery R. Holland when he says.  "I don’t know what it will be like at the end of this life when we speak with our maker. But I will be very surprised if he does not at some point ask us if at least in our childish and foolish understanding of things.  Did we at least keep one commandment?  The first and great commandment.  I have thought a lot about how that whole time we are alive.  The whole 70 or 80 or 90 years that we have are really only for one purpose.  To learn to love God with All our heart might mind and strength.

Interesting.

Loving God is not easy.   Because it’s not something you say.  It’s something you do.  By keeping every commandment possible.

The mission teaches a lot… A LOT… and I didn’t leave ready.

The first 3 months are already going to be the hardest 3 months of your life.  For those who will be leaving soon.  Do yourself a favor and prepare yourself for the train wreck that it is.

Don’t be dumber than me…

I know the Church is true.

Hola!

I used to be used to the cold... in Pasco,  But now?  I have been using a sweater every day!  In Huancayo!!!!!  It used to be hot here for me!!!  Okay, my complaining is over.

This week we had changes.  I am now in Huancayo with Elder Fernandez from Antofogasta SHILE (Chile). That's how he says it haha.

My pension is the nicest lady every with just one leg!  haha Her name is Maria.

This week was fun and hard.  We had a special zone conference with President this week because the mission is have problems.  President is worried that the missionaries aren't working like they could.  And he wanted the whole mission to know that he is concerned.  It was pretty cool!  He shared a scripture from Eklesiestes that says basically (translating) Sweet is the sleep of him who works hard.  And so my comp and I have been doing all the work possible so that our sleep is sweet!  P.S.  It has been working.

This week we have another conference with Elder Waddel.  He is an area 70.  From Lima and is awesome!  He spoke at the dedication of the temple in Trujillo.  Which just happened!  We saw it yesterday in the chapel.

This week we passed by an investigator named Juan.  He and his girlfriend were yelling at each other.  (Which is bad because they are getting married the 11th of July.)  We used a few scriptures to calm them down and then said... "Now that the spirit is here again you can fix this" and we left!  And yesterday we found them both super happy!  We felt good!  That they still want to get married!  Man the scriptures are good!

Now I have no idea what we are going to do today... my comp and I are both super tiered.  But, everyone knows it is a sin to waste pday sleeping....

So we will see...

I hope the week is good for everyone.

So this week (like a good week) started in the jungle.  In a cave.  Full of bats... haha that last part I did not see coming.

So this week was going to be the baptism of Claudia and Diana.  But, thanks to good old Peru and more specifically Huanuco no one is married and Diana didn't get baptized.  BOOOOOOOOOO!!  Also, I was thinking about how we are going to help Diana get baptized... and she told us that her boyfriend is a member... but he's not... and if he did get baptized they didn't do a record.... So... that's good... the good thing is that a wedding here only costs 100 soles which is about 33 dollars..

But he doesn't really want to talk to us.... His name is Gabriel you could pray for him.

So the baptism happened and it was Awesome!  The ward got there super late!!!  SUPER LATE! But they did bring the party as well!  Claudia was super happy and all ended well!

Sunday in class I was next to Diana and lent her my triple to read a scripture in D&C 130.. and right on the other side of the page it was D&C 131:2 AND IT TALKS ABOUT MARRIAGE... I wanted to show it to her.  But, if I point it out it won't be the same... so I did a fast prayer that she would just read the whole page... and  then when i finished she was reading verse 2!  And following with her finger!  Fastest answer to a prayer ever!  I have to go.  But the Church is true!

Tingo María how i love you!‏

Monday, June 8, 2015

So I write as my family is on vacation in Ireland... But, I'll have you all know I am also on vacation in Tingo Maria!  Who's really winning?  We can leave that up for debate.....  ME

Okay, so this week was fun.  We started in Huancayo and finished in Tingo which is quite the change!  We have 1 baptism for this Saturday who is Claudia.  She is awesome and the ward has really stepped out to her.  That makes being a missionary really easy and fun!  If any of you have been asked by the missionaries to help them with an investigator, do it!  Because it makes 100% difference!

I came across the Apocrypha in the bible the other day.  Super interesting.  Man I do not know what to say.

So we were having a Family Night on Saturday with Orfilio and Jacklyn and Kevin (their son) and Norma and Estrella.  And it was super fun!  After the lesson we played Habla Chanco.... Which is Kevin's favorite game, he is 5 and fell into the water when his dad got baptized hahah which was funny because he was sad that he couldn't get baptized on the same day.  Anyway, how you play is you put a blind fold on one person and he goes around the room and touches people and when he finds somebody he says I talk pig!  Or whatever animal he wants... and we kept going in between me and Elder Cayo.  And guessing Orfilio.... and one time he made me talk like a fly... which is super hard...  I recommend this game....

I was reading in Alma at the end of for... when he was getting ready to go preach to a whole bunch of less actives.. it says that he prepared himself and the only way to same them would be with the power of a pure testimony...

(Elder Glassett Spanish to English translation)

So what do we learn from that?  We know people that are knowing not in the church and who seem like they have 0 intention of returning.  Who say bad things about the church or in their hearts want to.. What do we do?  Give up? Leave them alone?  Say, well I shouldn't bother them.  They don't want to hear from me?  No, you don't have to be forceful, annoying or in their face...

There is only one thing you should do and there is only one thing that will work... a testimony. A pure testimony. Food for thought.

Huancayo again!

Monday, June 1, 2015

This week was short and great!

My comp and I did some serious work and I felt good about that!

We have been teaching a mom and her daughter Diana and Claudia who are getting baptized the 13th of June!  They are both super awesome!  It was funny how we met them because we were looking for a less active guy and when we knocked on his door (which is also the door of a few people) Claudia came out and said that she is also a member…so we were like cool!  We are going to complete this family!!  But, after looking really hard in the records she is not there!!  So now we are also baptizing her… but here’s that sad thing…. She did get baptized… about 9 years ago… the missionaries never did her bap record.  But they are both awesome and the ward has really reached out to them with activities and stuff!  They feel happy and comfortable in church!

We are going to Huancayo again… so that will be super fun!  Hang out with a bunch of guys from Utah… Now I know why they call it the factory of missionaries.

We had to drop the best family ever… her name is Lizeth.  And her kids are so freaking funny!..  And her Boyfriend… does not want to get married… we have tried EVERYTHING we talked about blessings. The commandments… we just straight burned… nothing worked… I’m sad about that!

Short story, the son of another investigator wanted to sit next to me at church… (Picture a Peruvian Travis) and when it came to sing he asked for the hymn book!  But he can’t read… and we only had one… haha so I gave him the bible opened to Songs of Solomon and told him to sing… haha and he DID!!!

Que buena semana! - What a great week!

Monday, May 25, 2015

So, this week was super awesome and it had a finetastic ending!  Elder Cayo and I were super happy with our Missionaries last night!
With all of our lessons and study times and miracles that have been awesome I don’t know where to start this week. We start with a cool and weird experience.
We taught a woman whose son is a Pastor in the Triple M church. As we finished the lessons which was super awesome! The spirit was definitely there! The son comes out. And looks at the Book of Mormon.  And says oh you’re reading your book about Joseph Smith… if I pull out a book about Martin Luther will you read it? We didn’t say anything.  We have learned you can’t talk to these people.  Because they know that what we do is true.  They just don’t care.  I felt a dark, almost evil feeling as he spoke.  As if the Spirit was testifying of his many lies.  It was worse than the time we were in the Community of Christ Church.  After waiting and biting my tongue for a while, we testified that we haven’t said anything but the truth, that he can deny it if he wants.  But to remember that the pharisees also denied the truth… so be careful.  Wow, I have never left a lesson so motivated!  I don’t understand why someone would be so against the Bible they teach from!  It made me Very grateful for my testimony. Very grateful for the church that encouraged me to get one. Very grateful that I can find the answers to the questions I have and later that I can "double check" with God to see if it's Correct. What a blessing.
Later the Ward started to help us out a bunch!  We did a family night in the house of a CR (recent convert) and we had like10 people with us!
Then our investigators came to church!  And seem to be making great friends there!
