I'm still outside

Sunday, March 27, 2016

Sunday was a little bit crazy, we swung by the house of an investigator so that we could go to church together. She wasn't there... Boo..  but, as we knocked on the door, another woman came up to us and said you teach about God and the Bible right?  We said yes.  And she said you have to help my son who's only 13 and says that he's an atheist. We went by to meet her son and invite him to go with us.  He Went! Then we had an appointment with him on Tuesday...it went really well he decided to invite his friends and we are getting to know a lot of new people thanks to him. It's funny how God works.

Later that night... We had a question.  Everything had failed.  EVERYTHING.  So we had a question, should we visit Miguel or Pedro?? My comp and I both felt like we should go to Miguel, and on the way I felt like we should go faster. Like a sudden urge that we needed to talk to him.  We got to his door and his girlfriend said that he had just left. So we went to the corner where the taxis are and we had to run and yell his name because he was almost in the car.  He saw us and got out. We went back to his house to talk for a moment there.  He told us that he had given up on the church. Wow!  We asked why. He said, he can just never do everything I know I'm supposed to... In that moment we felt so much love for him. He was just trying to be good and keep the commandments and realized that it's hard. We said that if God planned on giving up on us from the beginning he wouldn't have ever sent Christ.  We wouldn't go to church.  The church wouldn't exist.  If the commandments were impossible to keep God wouldn't have given them to us.  And if we were all supposed to perfect within the first year of our baptism... we would all go to hell.  We then read what is says in
Romans 8:
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
36 As it is written, for thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Later this week we found a family from a different Church with ideas that I have never even heard of! They finally asked us why we talk and teach so much about Jesus Christ. I almost laughed my head off!  WHY?!  He is the savior of the world.

On Saturday we went on a hike with President and Sister Henderson.  The hill is called the Fryer or Presidents head.  It was a bald spot.  We went more or less 15 kilometers so not too bad!  Anyway i'll send pictures tonight or tomorrow.

One week later

Saturday, March 19, 2016

Hello everyone,

Please disculp my tardance in manding my letter. (Spanglish) (Editor's note.  Not sure that's english or spanish.)

This week went well!  I have no complaints.  We had the district leader conference and then the last multizone of the most recent round.  I finished Acts and we had a party.  The last thing isn't true.

A little bit of a crazy thing happened on Thursday.  It was the Multizone pday.  And we played soccer on a FULL SIZE FIELD!!!  Man it is hard to play in Huancayo, but we finished and were on our way out of the complex place.  I was buying water and this is what happened. I asked the lady for cold water and she gave me regular warm water. (People think that any cold liquid you drink will get you sick) so, I wasn't too surprised.  As I was looking for a sol to pay a bunch of dust started flying toward the stand where we were.  The wind got stronger and stronger until everyone was pretty much blinded by the sand in the air.  Then out of no where the metal rooftop got blown off the walls of the shack.  In total, it was about 60 feet of metal roofing flying around about 20 feet above the ground like really big ninja stars.  HOLY WOW WE ALMOST DIED!!!  Luckily, a very big group of us were under the walls so we were pretty much safe.  There was one elder who got jumped by the runaway roof.  He ended up with about 4 stitches in his calf.  But was laughing about it the next day.

My comp and I have been practicing The Restoration in 4 minutes.  Maybe the coolest way to teach that lesson.  And we are taking advantage of Holy Week to teach it as often as we can.

I feel like it was a pretty normal week so I can't think of anything else exciting to tell you all.

Monday, March 14, 2016

Hey Family,

This week went by about as quickly as I thought it would.  I can't believe that March is like halfway over and by the way does anybody know where February went?  The multizones went well!  We got to go back to Le Merced and San Ramon!  Those places are paradise for real!

Last Sunday was interesting.  We left the sacrament meeting and a 14 year old came up to us and asked if it was possible to be forgiven of his sins.  We quickly occupied a room and started talking.  We talked about the promise of Forgiveness that God has promised to those who repent.  We then asked him if he was willing to repent.  He said yes, so, we asked him what he did.  There was a pause then, he just kind of let it out.  He told us from the biggest to the smallest thing he had done.  Then started to cry.  We could feel our Father's love for him.  And I could see myself in him.  I realized what King Benjamin means when he says aren't we all beggars? Aren't we all unworthy of The Kingdom of God without Christ?  I think that with that mindset it is very hard to be Prideful...  President always says, "Being humble is not thinking you are less than you are... Being humble is knowing exactly where you are."  A good way to think about it.

Yesterday we were finally were able to go crazy in our area.  Working like was didn't all week... (Which is very true)  We finally got a copy of the New and Returning Member forms from the ward so we went looking for the people that we didn't know.  We didn't find them but, we found four new investigators by just looking for their houses so that's good.   Elder Godoy talked about a few things that have been helping a lot.

· Lessons vs. Teaching
 Teaching well or a lot.

· Friends vs. Chosen people.
Teaching people who are ready to hear the gospel or teaching people who always let us in but don't progress.

· Activities vs. Results
Using time wisely

· Baptisms vs. Converts
Obvious..

We have been trying to recognize when we are on the wrong side of these Missionary Traps . And it was been helping.  I am really grateful for the things I am learning as a missionary.

Note from the administrator...  As has become normal the past six months, a letter does not arrive weekly.  I can usually find photos of Coco, but this week, he sent word that he helped deliver Erin's friend, Karissa, to her companions, as she just arrived in the mission on Thursday and then sent these photos of the hills of Huanuco where he spent part of the week for a multi-zone conference.  Enjoy......
