Huánuco is my new home..

Monday, March 30, 2015

Okay everyone!!

Hello!

I got moved out of my Pampas… and separated from my child... Poor guy he was so young… I am in a city called Huánuco now and it is a COMPLETETLY DIFFERENT WORLD HERE!!! First of all it is modern… more or less. Secondly the city is HOT!!! Bueno… maybe it’s not THAT hot but after being in Cerro and then Pampas you can bet I got used to cold…  (Coco is now in a climate of 80 degrees year round and 6,700 feet above sea level.)

My house is in a place called parque doscedros… My pension is across the street from the bishop. His wife is a health food freak… it’s awesome!! We eat avocados and watermelon every day! And she made me wash my hands before eating an apple once!!  So that made me feel safe...

Our ward puts Paragsha AND Pampas to shame!!! Normally we have like 150 in attendance!! That is more than the 70 and the 30 that I had before!!

My Comp is Elder Reis... From Brazil. So it’s Elder Hays…That’s how you say it… I will never understand why Portuguese is how it is… but I don’t care because I don’t have to learn it!! Go Me!

This week we had the opportunity to go to a place called Tingo Maria… Which is the Jungle in my Zone! We were doing a baptismal interview! And Holy cow it's Hot in the jungle!!! TOO HOT! It’s the Sun in there!!! And if you want to know what the mountains are like there just watch Tarzan! Because it’s pretty much the same!!

This week while knocking doors we found a member of the MMM... (Evangelical) and she has been a member for 14 years! But because she only has the Bible and not the Spirit teaching her about the Bible... she doesn’t understand the Bible too well.... She told us about her baptism and how she felt when she left the water... how she felt the Holy Ghost... We tried to explain the Holy Ghost and the GIFT of the Holy Ghost are different... maybe when we fill a cup of water it will have water until we drink it all... but the Gift of the Holy Ghost is an unlimited supply... It never runs out!!!

I am grateful for the spirit who teaches me the truths of the gospel!!!  It makes all the diferencia.

I hope you all find yourselves well! I am still alive and well!

¿Cambois ya? ¡NO LO PUEDO CREER! (Transfers already? I can't believe it!)

¡Hola a Todos!
For those of you who are wondering… yes it is cold here…. And this week are changes!  Where did this change go?? I have no idea!! I have been a proud father for a little bit under 6 weeks now! My young Ecuadorian son is doing really well! I basically have him do everything now! Not in a commanding way… but start lessons, initiate contacts…. To gain more confidence!  This week flew by though!

Tomorrow night we will now the changes! I hope I don’t leave this place! And man I hope they don’t close us! We had 48 people in the house chapel yesterday! Which I think is a record!!! We had a family from a different ward come visit us! They were 10!! The Elders were called on to speak. Again! That makes 2 times this month… On top of our calling as Ward Mission Leader missionaries and (for me) Young Men's President… it would really be nice if the Branch could do something for itself!

Yesterday we got called over by an old guy who wanted a free bible.  After explaining that we couldn’t give him a bible he asked to see the book we had… the Book of Mormon…. He looked at it a few seconds. And then said… it doesn’t have Genesis…. It can’t be true. After explaining that the book of Mormon and the Bible were written in different parts he said… but they’re not the same….  After using what seemed like 1000 examples to try and explain it he said please just leave…. How can some people be SO close minded? If they love the bible and the Word of God so much why are they scared of having more? Oh wait I know why! Because they don’t understand the word of God! There are hundreds of examples in both books that support one another…..

Pampinos are a hard people….  All that being said, I feel I will be here one more change… if the area is still open…. If not, I will be having emergency transfers the first of Abril! YAY!! …emergency transfers…

Also we had a great week! We found 6 NEWS WOWIE WOW WOW!!!  We were teaching an investigator who has received the lessons for years… but his dad won’t let him get baptized!  Who always gives us references… for the ward (which is sad?) Anyway, we taught all his buddies, all 4 of them, and I think we will have success with this crew.

¿Donde se fue esta semana? ¿Quien? (Where did this week go? Who?)

Monday, March 16, 2015

Family! Aloha!!

All is well in good old Peru! Although I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT CHANGES
ARE THIS WEEK ALREADY!!!!  My son and I are finishing week 5 and starting week 6 of 12 weeks. (the missionary training guide).  Carhuaricra is my district leader and wanted me to inform you all about his existence.

We have been working like crazy here!  Guevara went to Lima to do his papers last week and got back on Wednesday. So we have not had much time to work in our area. But, that being said we have found 3 new this week! Although NONE OF THEM ARE MARRIED PUCHA MAKINA!!!

But the good news about is that Hermana Luz is doing great and might be called as the Primary President.... So go her!

This Monday I had a cool experience. I was able to be a missionary in English!!  As we where having a zona pday we went to some old ruins in Huancayo. We ran into a family from Canada. They are here for a service project and will be in Peru for the next 3 months or so... anyway. As I talked to them I found out that they are Protestants. Very
Protestant.  I asked the man what he saw as the main difference between our churches. We said that we see God And Christ as separate beings when in the Bible there is lots of "evidence" that they are the same.  Hmmm... After many examples of scriptures where they are obviously NOT the same he said... "With our mortal minds we could never understand nor explain all the mysteries of God. Maybe it doesn't make sense... but that is where faith
comes in."  NO.  God and his ways make sense... the only reason they wouldn't is because man has changed them... God created man in HIS OWN IMAGE and not the
other way around... and am grateful that I belong and teach of a church that is backed up by the Bible. We didn't have to change the Bible to prove our point... because it's the same point God has been proving since Adam.

1. Is God the same or different than before?
2. Did we have prophets before?
3. Did Christ call 12 apostles?
4. Does God still love us?
5. Heb 13:8

6. The end.

I know that this is the true church of God. And the more I study the more I know. I challenge every person who reads this email to Pray.  Ask yourself the above questions.. and these.
There are only three reasons that God would not newly reveal his Gospel to a Prophet such as Joseph Smith...

1. God lost his power to call Prophets when Christ died. No.
2. God has stopped loving us and for that he could care less if we are saved...No.
3. Our generation is soooo incredibly smart and righteous that we no longer need God to guide us...No.

Haha a super funny thing happened on Friday… Elder Alfonso was looking for scripture markers and por fin he found them!  Carhuaricra was lowering the price from 3 soles to 2.50 when he had finally lowered it.  Alfonso thought he could do a little better and said, "Hermana apoyame 2.50!" Haha we made so much fun of his for that one!  We are always like Oh Alfonso Apooooyame!! Haha!

I'm just glad it's done

Monday, March 9, 2015

Well this week I made personal mission History! With the First baptism!  It was great!
But it started out so incredibly hard. Monday started out easy like a normal Pday... and ended with what felt like 10000000 problems.  And all of them were things I had no power over.  I had to fast.

One of the Huge problems was that Luz failed the interview for question 4...Abortion.  After a day of going to Huancayo and ask to have President interview her... she passed and we got the green light!

It was interesting to see the hand of God in this week... Because it felt like he gave my a million things to worry about just to see what or how I would respond.  Because by Friday I was free from everything!  It seemed that God had the plan from the start to do all the work.. and to leave me how I was before... but amazed.

It reminds me of a scripture.  When Laman and Lemuel were being tools. God told Nefi to stretch forth his hand and he would shock them... to kill them... it says so they will know that I am God.  It seems I got shocked this week.  And even though I don't know why... i'm glad it happened. It seems I know now more than ever that God understands me and knows me and maybe he gets his gustos by messing with me.  haha  But I'm alive... I used to say that as a joke.  But now I'm really grateful for it...  I leave this week happy.

Cor 1:27 God chooses the weak things of the world to confound the wise.  I am so grateful to be one of the truly weak things of the world.

Fastest week of my life.

Monday, March 2, 2015

Hi family!! I hope all is well and good! I am still alive which is something that continues to surprise me in this dear town of Pampas.

This week we were able (or God helped us) to reach our goal of 41 members in the sacrament meeting! This has never happened in the history of the branch. Also, the four of us missionaries are now in charge of running not one but TWO organizations... Elders Quorum and Young Mens. Pucha!

On a super exciting note, Hermana Luz is headed for the waters of baptism this Saturday!! She is so ready! When we first put the date for the 28 of February she was a little hesitant. She didn’t know if the Lord would be able to forgive her for the things she has done. She felt a feeling I once lived hopeless, but now, it’s incredible! She is so happy! We taught the commandments to her on Saturday and she accepted all of them! Even the Sabbath day, this is easily the hardest in this country! But wow is there a change in her. I am so blessed to have seen it.

We found Luz contacting when I was with Arnez. We were walking to a lesson. And he just stopped and said I like this door. Let’s knock. And boom! We found the most prepared person of our missions! I know the Spirit of the Lord told him to do that. I am happy we were worthy to be guided to one of our sisters.

We taught a man named Juan and his ¨Wife¨ Atzumi who this week asked us how we were able to change her ¨Husband¨ because he has a hard heart.  We read 2 Nephi 33:1 when a man speaks with the power of the Holy Spirit it carries the words to the hearts of the children of men!  Or in other words. We were just there. The Spirit is teaching him. I'm
not.

I know why I have had a hard mission.  Because I started it with a hard heart the Lord had to crack me down a little to restart in the process of building. Listening to Jeffery R. Holland this week he said, "Any evil can be undone. But it will NEVER DEVELOP INTO SOMETHING GOOD." He also said Faith is like a rope. Easy to trust when you use it to tie a box or your shoe. But when you hang from it you always wish you had more!

That’s what I have for this week.

Take care!
